The U.S. Senate has unanimously passed the “No TikTok on Government Devices Act.” Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri introduced the legislation that seeks to ban the Chinese-based video-sharing app from government devices.
U.S. officials have increasingly expressed concerns regarding the risks to cybersecurity and national security the app poses. The State Department, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and the Transportation Security Administration are among the U.S. agencies that have already banned the use of TikTok on their devices.
The legislation would allow for exceptions for law enforcement activities or national security interests. The bill now moves to the House of Representatives for consideration.
